Why don't dads have qual rights

So this will be our first baby and I'm kind of upset to know guys don't get any sort of maternity leave. Those first couple of weeks are important for both parents to be present for bonding and adjusting not just the mom. What are your thoughts ladies?

Men are protected by FMLA for having had a baby just like women are. Women don't get maternity leave either unless they qualify for FMLA or their employer voluntarily offers it.

actually,  depending on where u are and what policy the place u work at has in place,  dads GET leave. its called paternity leave. my husband took 6 weeks paternity leave, but we both own our own business. our employees get 4 weeks paid maternity AND paternity leave and can extend it for another 2 weeks,  unpaid. so a total of 6 weeks.  4 paid, 2 unpaid

Parental leave in the US is covered by Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA.) It's unpaid leave. It applies for birth, adoption, and placement of foster children. Up to 12 weeks per calendar year. The same leave a woman working in a company that doesn't provide paid leave would take. My husband has taken leave with all 3 of our previous children and will again with this one.

Are you in the US? Men can take FMLA just as women can...its just not necessarily paid...but neither is it for women.

I just found out today my job changed the maternity policy for 2018 yay!! I get 12 weeks leave and my husband gets 3 weeks 100% paid for him and for me I get first half 60% of pay and second half 100% paid! Super excited!!!

My partner took a week of paternity leave which we can technically share all together but it didn't make sense for us as I'm breastfeeding and I'm her primary caregiver. In Canada, part of your year long leave is shared if you want it to be.

Some jobs give paternity leave. My husband gets 10 days of leave (Marine Corps) and then he can take as many personal leave days as he can afford. I do think it is crappy that they don't get time off. The think the mat/pat leave really needs to be adjusted here in America. It is prerty crappy.

Our insurance doesn't cover leave for the male. I'm just saying it should be a standard everywhere it's overlooked greatly as a lot of businesses don't think it's necessary.

Actually some jobs do have maternity leave for dads. My job gives mothers 12 weeks of full pay and fathers 4 weeks of full pay so that they can be at home bonding those first few weeks. I understand why they don't give men as long as women because traditionally it's the mother providing the most care for the baby.

somber places do give it to them. In my job, dad's can take up to 12weeks if they have enough time saved up.
