Do you give to homeless people on the street when you walk past them?

If you don’t give to them what is your reasoning why? I got to thinking about this from another post & then I remembered an incident that happened during my high school years. I was apart of a youth group for church & we were on a trip to Panama City in Florida. As we were walking to our hotel a homeless man asked some of the kids for change & then one of the youth pastors stepped in between the kid & the man & said “none of us have any change on us.”. When we got near the door to the hotel the pastor turned to all of us & said “When walking past the homeless people DO NOT give them anything. Understand?”. He didn’t give us a reason why either. Maybe he thought it wasn’t safe...? Idk. So, if you give to the homeless I applaud you, but if you don’t ever give to them on the street what is your reasoning?
