Uh idk how it would work for period smell but chefs soap, typically mint of some kind, removes all smells from hands when you're cooking. so you could try that to wash up with afterwards?

Honestly to me that's not weird I've done it too. I usually just use really hot water and a lot of soap and it comes off or if it's that bad try soaking? I've never done that but just a suggestion lol 
Also if you're still nervous about people smelling it or something you can also do that and put a strong smelling lotion on
