Not what I expected...

So finally, after a week I am home! My birth story is nothing like I would have wanted or expected but I am so thankful for my beautiful baby boy!

I went in to triage last Monday 10/2, 37 weeks and 2 days with really bad swelling and what seemed like high blood pressure. Something jus felt really off. Turns out I was right! Doctors ran some tests and found out I had pre eclampsia. They told me my baby had to be delivered ASAP to protect my health and his.

They admitted me and started me on some medication to thin my cervix, and magnesium sulfate to keep me from seizing. Both of these medications had terrible side effects!! After twelve hours the nurses did a cervical exam (which was extremely painful due to the medication I was on) and I was only dilated a 1.5 and 50% effaced. I was really emotional and my blood pressure kept climbing. Doctors decided to try one more medication and after 4 more hours and another traumatic cervical exam there was no change. Due to the increase of blood pressure and stress on my body, doctors decided to go with a c section. Something I didn't really mind doing, but definitely wasn't the way I wanted things to go.

The nurses decided to prep me. And from stories I've heard from women I know, the epidural or spinal block is always first, but this time that's not what they did. They gave me a catheter without an epidural and I felt everything! It hurt so bad! They finished getting me prepped and next thing you know I'm in the OR with my fiancé.

The anesthesiologist came in and had me sit up on the surgical table. He gave me one teeny tiny shot and I didn't feel anything after that! It was the easiest part of everything. I started to get really anxious because I was so scared something might happen, but after I laid down and my doctor got started, my sweet baby Greyson had arrived into the world on Tuesday October 3rd weighing 8 pounds 9 ounces and measuring 20 inches. I love him sooo much! I never imagined that at 20 years old I could have found the love of my life and have the most amazing baby boy.

Doctors kept me until Friday at 4 pm to watch my blood pressure and swelling. We went home and had a great 24 hours adjusting... until I took my blood pressure after feeling a little weird again. It was 189/111 and I was having a really hard time breathing. 3 am Sunday 10/8 morning we rushed back to the hospital and went to the ER. They gave me a chest x ray, MRI, cat scan, blood tests, and urine tests. After what seemed like forever, the doctors came back and told me the pre eclampsia only got worse after delivering my baby, and I had a large amount of fluid around my lungs. They admitted me and started me back on the magnesium sulfate, a water pill, and pumped me full of heart medications.

After some monitoring and constant medicating, doctors said everything is back to normal and it's time to go home. They gave me multiple medications to keep my blood pressure in check, and told me I am going to have weekly doctor visits until 6 weeks postpartum, and continue to be monitored after that.

I'm so thankful that after all of the chaos and stress my body went through, physically and mentally, that I have the sweetest baby boy and most loving fiancé to get me through this hard time. And I advise any pregnant moms out there to go to the hospital if they feel anything is off, even if you think you're being paranoid. Because if I would have waited, I may not have my little boy. Instincts are everything!!
