Happy Ending

Elizabeth

My mom's dog is 14, right around the age that our 5 other dogs of the same breed have passed away. She's blind and deaf, but still happy and gets around. On Saturday, she couldn't stand. At all. She would try, but would end up just scrabbling at the ground. We decided it was time. She's old. If she didn't get better over the weekend, we would take her to be put down because her quality of life would be so minimal if she was immobile. Come today, and she can walk every once in a while, but randomly falls on her side and flails. Like she has no control over her legs (we know it's not a seizure). So my mom took her into the vet. After a quick exam, they say this is unusual, and start throwing around some theories. It's possible we will still have to put her down. It's possible that she's deteriorating. But the vet says it's also possible she has an ear infection and is experiencing extreme vertigo. She's home now, and on medications to hopefully help her get back on her feet (literally). Here's hoping we can fill the hole in the backyard next to her siblings' graves with nothing but dirt
