Issues with prenatal doctor **Update

Cayley

Halfway through my 29th week and cannot believe what happened today

The first time I met withy prenatal doctor I met her in emergency and was having some issues a previous doctor wasn’t seeing me for

Previous doctors nurse had actually told me at the time which I was 18 weeks that rather then see me sooner to wait the 4 weeks or go to emergency

At that time I was having several issues I wasn’t sure why one of them included spotting

So met this doctor in emergency she asked me why I wasn’t seeing my original doctor assigned for the baby and explained to her at which point she said well you need someone who’s going to take care of you and I would like you to join me so I can follow you and make sure you getting the care you need and are ok

I thought wow that’s refreshing ok sure I will continue to follow up and make my way to you

It worked better actually because the hospital she delivers at is closer to us

So first time I meet with her I am early as always to make sure I find parking and do my weigh in etc

We waited 1.5 hours to see her!

Asked the nurse if everything was ok she stated doctor was running behind and she was aware but didn’t feel she needed to tell us

We live out of town so we drive in an extra half hour to see her and appreciate being told when checking in if there’s any issues so we can manage schedules and make sure parking is up to date

Her nurse was absolutely appalling

She was going over routine questions with me and one of the questions was how many pregnancies have you had

So I told her this marks my sixth

Further details come of how many live how many didn’t make it

She then comments wow 6 pregnancies at your age already

Mind you I’m 29 years old .. my heart sank I was in shock and didn’t know what to say to her at this point

She also asked me do you do funky drugs?

Ummm funky? No I don’t do any drugs

My mom is a nurse (retired) and she was sitting with me in the room and after the nurse left she couldn’t believe the behaviour and was floored also

We meet with the doctor and explain to her what went on and how we felt especially towards the touchy subject of my babies

The doctor was empathetic and apologized for her nurse saying she wasn’t sure what had gotten into her but that she would speak with her and our visit went back on track

Saw her twice more since then I ended up in and out of emergency a few more times on labor and delivery because issues were arising again

So instead of switching to every two weeks from four weeks they wanted me in a week to monitor me and make sure all was ok

So today was our appointment and we arrive

And next thing you know we are waiting and no ones saying anything

45 minutes pass and I ask reception is everything ok she said she’s not sure what’s happening

So we wait a bit longer doctor comes in I let her she is late and I have another appt I have to be at and it’s back in my town and that this is the second time this has happened and where is the respect or common courtesy to politely mention your running behind

She says well I’m not going to tell you what I’m doing with patients

Well no I didn’t ask what you were doing who you were seeing or what not

I’m asking for common courteous and respect as your patient in letting me know upon checking in you are running behind as today I don’t have that time to see you and wait like this

I also told her if I was late like this you wouldn’t see me and I would have to rebook which is not fair

She then says well you don’t have to see me you can pick another doctor if your not happy and you chose to come here so not my fault

I said well then on that note I think we are done here and I would like my file please and left

I couldn’t believe it

Thankfully I have another doctor who’s a gyno I’ve had for years and she can see me until I give birth and I will stay registered at my hospital but I am not letting this woman touch me or me child again

The lack of empathy and lack of understanding and outcome she chose insane

I don’t trust her anymore we’ve already had an issue with her in between all this that landed me in the hospital

She said she wanted me walking 10 kms a day and so I made it to 4.5 and had contractions for 24 hours at which point a different doctor at the hospital said wow ummm no over exercise can put you in preterm labor please don’t do that

I’m not overweight either so that wasn’t an issue in regards to her saying that

It came back on an ultrasound my baby has a larger stomach and she said whatever I’m eating was making that happen and because it’s my fault I should walk more to stop it

And I also confirmed it with the doctor I saw last week that was filling in for her

She looked at me like I was crazy for mentioning a number like that

So this is the final straw and I feel like I as a patient don’t matter and I’m just a pay check to her

I mean what does she care if she doesn’t give out good advice or want to watch me for the reasons I’ve been to I should

I’ve never made a post on here before but felt enraged to the point that I wanted to know has anyone else ever experienced anything this?

I feel alone a bit and slightly lost on my journey now and as though my baby doesn’t matter to her

But it’s ok I’m in good hands with my other lovely lady who has assured me along the way if I ever needed to go to her I was more then welcome to

Sorry for such a long post but I honestly don’t know anyone who’s pregnant at the moment or who has gone through such issues with their doctor and just need to be able to speak to other Moms around me

Thanks Ladies

Update**

So good news! I am being referred to a different lady in a separate clinic for my hospital and hoping from here all goes well!

The hospital staff recommended her as a very nice lady and that I shouldn’t have any issues going forward

Much relief!
