We were asked to leave a church when I was a child because my autistic brother made too much noise. He was 4

My two older brothers were both almost excommunicated for having premarital sex with their long term girlfriends. But they repented (my parents having strong ties in the church helped), and everything was fine. 
I was excommunicated by choice. I had premarital sex, got tattoos, moved in with my boyfriend, drank alcohol and caffeine, but for some reason they would just NOT kick me out. I got tired of the missionaries always knocking on my door, so I wrote a letter of resignation and spoke to the bishop personally. After a looong talk, he finally accepted my decision and excommunicated me.
One of the happiest days of my life.

My MIL and her family grew up as JWs and they were excommunicated when her little brother died of cancer because they had wanted to go to the hospital with him or something. They were leery of organized religion for a while but when I came into their family, born and raised in the Christian Church, they started to get a more positive view of faith and even started attending church with me and my man.

I guess? My family was asked not to come back to a Jehovah's Witness church for celebrating holidays (my dad was fine with enforcing this until Halloween came around, because it's his favorite holiday 😂).

However, I have read about events in history where certain people were excommunicated from religious organizations. For example, during the Salem Witch Trials, a lot of people were excommunicated from the Puritan church after they were found guilty. It was practically a death sentence as those unfortunate people were usually hanged within the next week. Basically, when they died, their souls wouldn't go to Heaven. Instead, they were doomed to wander the Earth for all eternity.

Ive had some Natives kicked out of the shaker religion for practicing their cultural ways outside of the shaker church. It makes sense to me to keep them separate but, kicking some one out is wrong & impossible in my eyes for any human to cut ties of another to their spiritual healing.

My dad was excommunicated from the Lutheran church that I grew up in for lack of attendance. I think there may be more to the story that I don't know about though. 🤔

Not from a religion, but my parents were kicked out of a couple of churches (asked to leave). It was before I came along, but the experiences really shaped the negative view of churches held by my older siblings.

My co worker had her first son at 19 and the Catholic church made her leave. her sister couldn't get pregnant so they used in vitro fertilization and the Catholic church told her that god didn't want her to be a mother and that she would never be a fit mother.
