Why aren’t my prayers answered?

So long story short I had this somewhat bad relationship with this guy but yet good in a sense. But we broke close to 7months now and my mind is still on him! We don’t talk or nothing. I prayed about it..ask god to remove him from my inner thoughts and all that but nothing! I even dream about him. I also prayed for a new relationship..nothing. Sigh..I don’t know. Am I doing something wrong? Why hasn’t he answered my prayers?

Sometimes God doesn't answer your prayers because that is not in his plan, his plans for you are greater than any of our understandings. You are not going out on blind faith, sometimes you can pray, and they will be answered, but not without action. You can pray for a new guy all you want, but without action, that prayer means nothing, God WILL provide, but not without trials. This seems to be a tough point in your life, and I really hope things go well, instead of praying for a relationship, focus on your relationship with God. Pray for the strength, wisdom and opportunities of growth in your life, because your journey and your testimony never stop walk with God with that destination in mind. I really do hope this all works out for you, an that this is all for a reason.

1.) I would seek out a relationship with Holy Spirit. Read Romans 6-8. Holy Spirit is Christ's Spirit in us to help us with our inner issues and countless other things. 
2.) Be sure to ask for forgiveness for this relationship. You said it that the relationship was bad and good. The Lord was probably telling you for a long time about it and to get out and you didn't listen. I'm not judging you-obviously I have no idea, I'm just going off of what you said. If you just broke it off and then started asking God for stuff I don't see how He could help you. If you don't give Him a way in He won't force it. You have to repent and then He makes a way in to help you.
3.) You don't need a new relationship yet. I wouldn't ask for one until you are healed from this past one and you are more intimate relationship with the Lord. The Lord may be hearing your prayers and answering with Himself-a relationship with Him is what you need. 
You aren't necessary doing anything wrong but obviously the Lord is responding and there is some sort of block between you too, these three things will help.

Because sometimes we use prayer as a passive excuse to not have to deal with things ourselves.  God will probably not just wipe him from your mind much like in most cases he doesn’t just take away addiction. You need to work at it.  Take those thoughts captive.  Pray over yourself before you sleep.

I would be careful not to make a relationship an idol. Are you desiring this person or a relationship in general over your relationship with the Lord. He is a jealous God.. be content in Him first and foremost. He doesn't withhold good things from His children. If your prayers are not being answered you need to check your heart and trust God that He knows best. The Lord requires total submission..

Sometimes God asks us to be patient instead of answering our prayers right away. Trust me, I know that it is agonizing to wait for something you want to happen and I’ve been in the same situation wondering if I’m just not praying correctly. Truth is, there is no right or wrong way to talk to God. The Lord loves to hear from you even in time of heartbreak (or should I say especially?) Sometimes you might have to pray about one thing for a really long time before you get your answer; it’s exhausting, but absolutely worth it. When you can look back once you get your answer and see God’s hand in your life, it’s an amazing feeling 😉
