How do you know your baby is okay??

Question

They say the 12 week mark your chance of miscarriage goes down and that's when most people announce. Thing is how do you know it's still okay? I had an ultrasound at 8 weeks and won't have another until 20 weeks. So at 12 weeks when I announce I won't know for sure everything is okay right? That's a lot time to wonder about what's going on in there.

Are you getting the nuchal translucency scan? It’s an ultrasound (usually around 12 weeks) that checks the fluid behind the skull which can indicate a few abnormalities. Mostly, though, it’s an ultrasound that puts your worries to rest (for a little while at least). It made me feel a lot more relieved and to start thinking about telling others!

At your 12 week appointment they check for a heart beat with the Doppler if they can’t find one they will more then likely do an ultrasound I wouldn’t worry to much! Either way you will hear a heartbeat at the next appointment and that will confirm that things are ok!

You doctor typically uses a doppler to check babies heart rate, this would take place at your second appointment which skills be happening soon :) But your chance of miscarriage also goes down once you see babies heart beating on that ultrasound.

I got a home Doppler... it is nice to hear the heartbeat whenever I want. I’m 13 weeks tomorrow and I didn’t have any real trouble finding the heartbeat with a full blaster.
