I grew up being raised kind of uninvolved & authoritarian.. I didn’t even realize that’s what it was until I saw this chart. I just feel like I had no support with what we wanted to do, and we got in trouble for not really doing anything. My mom worked long hours then she just wanted to eat and sleep when she got home, my step dad was an alcoholic drug addict who stayed in his room & only came out to cook lunch or yell at us for being too loud. Honestly, this really makes me sad to think about, but I feel like my parents have gotten better with time.. my youngest sister is a junior in high school now & she my other younger sister (going to cosmetology school) have a great relationship with our mom.. which is something I struggle with since it seemed like my twin & I never got the affection that she gives them. Maybe that has something to do with the younger ones being my step dad’s daughters, but we were always treated as his own as well, without favoritism or anything. Sorry, kind of rambling.. my childhood was messed up on so many levels though that I can’t really pin point it.
I definitely want to raise my daughter in an authoritative manner. My husband & I talk about this a lot. We want to always be there for her & for her to feel like she can always come to us with anything. I want to encourage her to do what she loves, as well as have high standards & morals. I just really hope we can succeed in this new adventure of life 🙏🏻

the way my SO and I parent doesnt fit in one of these categories completely. we are a mix of authoritative and authoritarian. all the words in the authoritative box does describe us but there are words in the other that describe us as well. it seems to work well for my step daughter she is very well behaved and caring at least when she is with us. her mom is like a mix of the other 2 the univolved and permissive one. hardly around doesn't participate in being a parent at all has others do it for her and sadly my step daughter acts out so horribly with her. my step daughter doesn't throw fits with us we know when she is upset but she shows her anger or sadness in different ways with us where she is more calm about it, with her mom she is like a demon took over her and it's all out kicking screaming crying on the floor til she can't breath tantrum. her mom does things very different from us in all aspects of parenting my step daughter and it shows in her actions and attitude towards us and her mom.

My mom was somewhere between permissive and uninvolved because she was a single mother and working all the time. I'll probably be authoritative while my husband will be authoritarian.
