Why have separate public bathrooms?
Who doesn’t love a good history lesson on Friday? 😂
I saw another post about bathrooms, and it made me want to research further as to why we have sex-segregated bathrooms in the first place.
The whole article is here: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/jun/11/gender-bathrooms-transgender-men-women-restrooms
It’s long, but worth reading. But basically, it’s rooted in sexism (shocking, I know 😂). The tl;dr version is that people in Victorian times had the idea that women belonged at home whereas public spaces were for men. Separate bathrooms arose as a result of this anxiety. They also had separate reading rooms for women in libraries and separate cars for women on trains. Because, ya know, our delicate lady sensibilities can’t handle regular reading rooms 😂
My favorite part was about legislators making up “scientific facts” that are really pseudoscience that permits their sexist agenda. Because that never happens in this day and age, or anything 😂😂

Also it goes without saying that any transphobic comments will be reported and may result in you getting hit with the ban hammer
