couples counseling before marriage?

I was just wondering how other people feel about this?... my relationship of 5 years is struggling but we love each other very much, and do not want to let go. we have talked about couples counseling, but once I started thinking about it... what does it mean that we are needing counseling and help with our relationship before we have even gotten married? thoughts?

It means you’re both willing to try anything to make your relationship work and thats a huge part of a successful marriage, in my opinion.
Maybe it means you’re not ready to get married, maybe not. I wouldn’t stress it. Just keep putting in the work and hopefully it prepares you for a long road of happiness and gives you tools you’ll need in arguments and hardships we all face.

We did counseling before we got married. I thought it was beneficial because it brought in an impartial third party to shine light on things we may not have thought of. It's not a sign of weakness to want/need counseling - it's a sign of strength! Doing everything you can to improve and flourish your relationship before "throwing in the towel" is commendable. If you aren't in an abusive relationship, I would climb mountains and cross oceans to make my relationship work ❤️ 
I think everything stems from communication and a professional can help get the ball rolling or even jut help you articulate feelings.

totally do it. honestly, my fiance and I were basically done. I was 20 weeks pregnant and shit was horrible. we started counseling in July, and we are like 1000x better than ever. we still have ups and downs, but it's definitely a great place to talk about the things that you just can't without arguing. we will say the exact same thing in counseling that we've gotten into epic fights about, and we're both cool as a cucumber and work it out. it's pretty mind-blowing really lol

My husband and I did counseling before marriage and I found it super helpful. Our counselor said it was giving us the tools we needed to better understand and communicate with each other, and he was so right. We are able to better address our differences and find the best way to work together through the issues that come up. I would highly recommend giving at least one session a try!

Yes! My bf and I do couples “referring” 1-2x a month. It’s been super helpful. Having an outside person give insight is an amazing tool. I see nothing wrong, it means you two care and want this to work!

We did counselling before we got married too! Just like the girls before me have said, it isn't a sign of weakness, it's a sign of strength. Why not do everything you can to make yourselves stronger? Successful marriage is work, so work on yourselves. Through a church/pastor who you would want to marry you, like we did, and it was free. 
You're in a great place already if you both are willing to try- some people, I'm sure, would struggle to get there.
