What would happen 😞

So what would happen if my husband was diagnosed with cancer while in the military. Would they keep him working till he wasn't able to or would he get medically discharged. Just wondering cuz I asked him if they would let him go home or if we would have to stay here, he told me we would probably have to stay because it would take forever for them to get him out. TBH I don't want to be down in Tennessee if he dose I rather have us back up north where are family is if he could possibly be this sick.
