Was it just the heat of the moment?

I have a friend with benefits and a few days ago we had amazing phone sex. I was tired from work and it was kinda late that’s why we didn’t have actual sex. So while we’re on the phone he tells me to tell him that I love him and I do. Then he said ‘I love you’ back. I’m not really overthinking it. When it happened I just assumed it was a heat of the moment thing. It just surprised me when he said it back. I would ask him if he’s starting to catch feelings but I don’t want him to think I’m making a big deal about it. If he did want more I would be totally up for it.
