If we had universal healthcare and free college,  would military enrollment drop dramatically? What I noticed is that in the US, military is extremely important and glorified. Do you feel universal health care and free college would somehow negatively affect the number of people joining where they don't want to risk it. So they don't focus education and healthcare. Just saw this on Facebook and wondering.

It absolutely would! And you know what else would happen? People would be engaged more in politics so politicians would actually be held accountable to their words.

Yes, i also think the divorce rate in military couples would drop. 
I live in a military town and so many women marry marines as a ticket out / a ticket to guaranteed health care

YES! I'm sure that most young men and women who enlist do it because of the paid education and lifelong benefits. And I dont blame them although I wouldnt do it myself. Sad that some people feel there is no other option but to risk their lives to get an education, especially here in America.

Most of the people I know who joined only joined for free college and/or healthcare so I mean anecdotally speaking.

We should have universal healthcare anyway but people (government) would much rather not

I'm Canadian, we have free health care and free tuition for low to mid income families. I don't know what our enrollment rates are compared to America but I feel safe in my country!

That’s why my highschool had a higher military turnout than norm my grad year. The navy and army already do a lot of meddling with our kids but they super step up their pushing towards the seniors. It bugs me because one of their big snatch tactics is “you’ll get healthcare and college”. Our students with means never joined but it was always the students who had struggled through school via grades and lack of funds. I hold a lot of distaste for our school allowing the army and navy to pick on a kid’s weak point just to get another body.

Of course. The military often uses healthcare and education in exchange for putting your life on the line.
