I would not trust a child under 18 alone to be honest so much evil in this world.. i had a dude knock on my door for delivery with empty hands come to find he was going around robbing the weak (elderly, women alone) to his surprise i had my two brother and hubby in the next room😁

I’m pretty sure when I started middle school I went home from the bus by myself and was home alone. I have a sister who’s 4 years older but don’t remember if she was home or not. I don’t know why I can’t remember any of it! 
When we were kids we used to leave the house in the morning, be gone all day and play, and come home. Parents never knew where we were and it was totally fine. I can’t imagine letting my kids do that these days. I think it’s partly because we’re so connected now (phones) and because the world is getting less safe.

My sister in law leaves her three children, 11, 9, and 4 home alone while her and her husband go on dates and stuff. I do not like it at all and neither does my mother in law but they are atleast down the road from us and we live in the country so we don't really have to worry about strangers. they are smart well behaved children but I still wouldn't allow it if it were me. too scary. they are a lot more layed back then me though. to each their own. I was like 11 or 12 when I started babysitting but I was very mature for my age. I still wouldn't allow someone that young watch my kids though. Lol I barely let my mom or mother in law watch my son.

In Canada, children must be older than 10 . If there's younger children at home, the child has to be 12 years old before they can be in charge of the younger ones.

Depends on the kid, their level of maturity, I stayed home alone for short periods when I was 10, started babysitting for people from church when I was 11, but my brother didn’t stay home alone until he was like 14 :)
