Nesting or Cervical Mucus

Ok, so I'm new to this... This is my first month off my pill (3 weeks on 1 week off) Last night was Ovulation Day according to this app... now when I went to the loo I noticed a lump of gunk on the paper almost like discharge - it was thick and almost grey/brown in colour... Can someone please tell me if this sounds like nesting or if it's just cervical mucus getting out of the way for the egg to be fertilized? I have been getting cramps since last week also (if that's relevant)
