Anyone taking spironolactone?

Hi! I’m 38 and ttc #3. I was put on spironolactone a little over a year ago for alopecia. Now that we’re ttc again, I have been wondering if it affects fertility at all. I’ve read differing stories so I thought to ask someone taking it.

Woah girl!! You cannot take that drug while trying to conceive. In fact most docs have you take a pregnancy test or prove a solid birth control method before even prescribing it. It causes major, I repeat major birth defects in male fetuses as it blocks testosterone. Since you don’t know what you’ll conceive they state for you not to take it. I’m freaking out just writing his post. It’s that bad.

Hi, I️’m not anymore, but was on spiro for about three years for acne. It did wonders! My derm wouldn’t refill my rx when I️ mentioned I️ was ttc about 3 months ago, because of birth defect risk. I️ was hoping to stay on it til I️ got a BFP though. I️ do wonder if would have helped to stay on it for ttc to keep hormones more balanced.
