IUD and brown thick discharge?

I had my Copper IUD fitted on the 6th of November. Today, I have been having on and off cramping and now this? I’m feeling nauseous at the moment. 
Is this normal or shall I ring the doctor in the morning?

Unfortunately they can’t find the string and I’m on my way to hospital for a scan. x
