Can You Be Friends With Those Close To Your Ex?

A little background here...I had a situation with an ex who made my life a living hell for me last year. I left him alone for good this year. The thing is, friends of his who tried to befriend me were the underlying issue of why we fell out. They constantly ran to him and told him everything I told them. I've just come to the conclusion that I'm weary about anybody that he associates with. I don't care to talk to any of them. Can you truly be friends with people who are close to your ex?

Of course. If they’re good people, why not? I’m still friends with my ex’s best friend. My ex was the ass, not him.

My bf and his ex have mutual friends but they have def favored her after the breakup and there's been hurt feeling. It's a tricky situation. I do think they go back to the ex if he says anything about her. We haven't been invited to some important events in the friends lives. It's def a tough spot to be in! I'd say if you're not that great friends with them, just be cordial acquaintances and don't discuss your ex with them.

I said no because the only time I had mutual friends was with my abusive ex. He told me if I ever hung out with any of them again he'd make sure I never made it home. I did see a couple after the break up but it was just weird because they were trying to compare my then boyfriend to my ex. Plus when I asked if he was cheating on me during our relationship (he started calling a little girl his daughter so I questioned it) my friend told me she doesn't feel she needed to answer but he didn't, it wasn't his actual daughter just his gf's daughter.  At that point I gave up trying to maintain any relationships. Oh well.

I think it’s fine if you’re either friends with your ex or the friends don’t mind.
