Is monogamy made to benefit men?

I was watching this short Instagram clip (I’ll attach the screenshot)

I don’t want to butcher this woman’s statement, since I did enjoy what she had to say, and I may have interpreted it differently, but what are your thoughts on her opinion?

I believe monogamy benefits both men and women when both treat each other well.

Yes. Gender roles are set up so that marriage (I’d argue monogamy in general though..not just marriage) benefits men more than women. Even when both partners work equal hours outside the home, women are still expected to do the majority of the housework, childcare and emotional labor.

I don’t think monogamy was made or created, I think it happened naturally. Same way polygamy and polyamory “happens” - some people just find love differently.

I think it was created to benefit men and if I was born in to a different society that didn't practice it I wouldn't necessarily want that for myself. 
That being said, polygamy was created to benefit men. Most societies that practice polygyny are male dominant. The ones that are female dominant, and practice polyandry, were created to benefit women. All system of social order were created to benefit someone. 
It's a tricky question, with a tricky answer. But admitting that yes, monogamy as it is currently widely practiced in our society (I think there is another post about about this, about women have to do most of the emotional work in relationships) it does benefit men more than women

Yes. Especially since monogamy has been a thing, men are often able to go off and sleep with other women, whether it be having another romantic partner or a prostitute. 
I can't remember the exact title of it, but Engels wrote a really interesting essay about how monogamy was made to benefit the patriarchy (and capitalism) by creating an acceptable means of "owning" women. Which is a pretty radical opinion to have during his time. Highly recommend checking it out.

Why does it matter? Monogamy works for some people and it comes natural to them, while others would/ could never be monogamous. I personally have never been attracted to more than one person at a time and believe in monogamy for myself and my relationship, but I don’t judge others for their decision. Traditionally, monogamy benefits women (not necessarily more than men) who have children since they have help raising the child.
