Is it right for a parent to try to sever the parental rights of the other parent?

Yes, absolutely. Not in the case of someone simply not liking the other person. But in cases of abuse, sperm donation, rape, or anything else severely against the law, then yes.

It depends on the circumstances but YES . Whether it be mother or father . If a parent is unfit , they’re just unfit . & by all means it’s okay to do what you feel is best for your child .

My real dad wasn't in my life and was abusive to my mom when she was pregnant so in my situation, it was completely right. Also let me say he had 4 years to be in my life so it's not like it happened right away. He's obviously a deadbeat since he's still paying the child support for those four years and I only get $20 every other week and barely get that

If the other parent is abusive, a child molester and etc then absolutely yes. There are some cases where a child is just better off without the other parent if the other parent proves toxic.

Totally depends.
If the other parent was abusive in any way.
If they’ve been absent and refuse to be a part of the child’s life.
If they’re addicted to drugs/alcohol and being around them would put the child in danger.
Then protect your baby and get their rights revoked. 
If you’re just immature and don’t like your baby daddy, grow up and get along with him for the sakes of the baby you chose to bring in this world.

So I am actually in a situation where I am considering taking my sons biological father to court. We have a long past. He was mentally abusive towards me. It never got physical, but I feel like it very easily could have. He’s hardly played any role in my sons life, and now has gone a year and a half with zero contact from him. I’m married and with a wonderful man who is willing to officially adopt my son. I’m now considering if I should pursue getting any of his rights relinquished.

Yes.  If the other parent is abusive/drug addict/etc.  I kind of wish my kids dad would get into some serious trouble so I could fight him for his rights.  Unfortunately "he's a fucktard" isn't a good enough reason 😒

It definitely depends the real only situation I know of where the father is trying to do just that is my sister and her husband. He has a child with his ex, by the time the son was a month old she never came to pick him up, moved in with another guy got pregnant, had that baby left that child with the father and moved around to different guys. Now she lives in Hawaii with her husband. She doesn’t make an effort to see her children (she hasn’t seen her 5 year old in almost 3 years in person). By court order she’s supposed be paying child support but she doesn’t. And yet she intervenes when my sister takes the son to doctors visits, calling the office saying my sister isn’t allowed to take him only she can. She’s caused so much problem and heart ache for her son that now my BIL is fighting to take her parental rights. Everyone knows she isn’t going to make the court date, even though it’s 6+ months away and she can get free flights from her husband. In this scenario she needs to have the rights taken from the son.

Absolutely yes! It shouldn't be done out of spite or hate but only if the safety of the child is at stake. I will be terminating my sons biological dads rights hopefully soon so my husband can adopt him. He hasn't contacted his son in 4 years and is in and out of jail for drugs, alcohol, and gang association. (Yeah I slept with a real winner 😣) he has put my son in danger as a baby. No way in hell he should have rights to MY child.
