Do you report illegal sales?

Question

So I was buying a couple Dutch masters, and I noticed a sign saying to report illegal tobacco sales. I asked what that sign was about and the cashier told me it’s to make sure the cashiers are checking ID. (It’s illegal not to check for ID)
So often we have discussed underaged drinking and smoking and what we can do to combat it, so it got me thinking. If this is such a concern to the public, do people even know that they can report an illegal sale? And if so do u report a business for not checking for ID?

I definitely don't care that much to report it. No reason to snitch, especially when the underage party can just go to another store and get it.

I went into a gas station once to buy beer. I was 23 at the time and paying for a 6 pack with a $20. The cashier was like “I won’t ID you if you let me keep the change”. Lmao what?? Take my ID and give me my change, asshole. Two weeks later that gas station blew up. Nobody was hurt 👍

I’ve never thought about it. I don’t smoke and never have, but I’ve purchased alcohol and I’ve not been carded like twice. One time it was with my parents for my 21st birthday. Didn’t card anyone at the table and would have probably brought a glass to my sister who was 20 (everyone else was of age). Then I didn’t get carded at a restaurant. I knew the guy, but still he probably should have carded me. I would imagine there is one or two more times. 
However, you need to be carded for other things too. I’ve never been carded for buying NyQuil/DayQuil (you need to be 18). I wasn’t carded for a Powerball ticket (again, 18). Same with purchasing some R movies, Parental Advisory Music, M video games etc. all things you technically needed to be carded for. I’ve never reported any of them though. 
The only times I’ve really been carded is going into bars and one time when I was trying to see a pg-13 movie when I was 22. No joke. She carded me. She asked my boyfriend and I for our ages, was said “22” and the she asked “is one of you older than 21”. We stared at her and said “yes... we are 22” she then needed to see at least one ID. Not both, but one 🙄.

If a person is obviously negligent, I will report.  I will always “report” if I know a minor is attempting to buy.

I know in my state you don’t have to card if you think they look over 30. It’s kinda a weird law but I know this cause I used to work at a grocery store. So it’s really up to the judgment of the person working there. Not my business ☕️

I don’t usually pay attention to other people checking out. I’m generally absorbed trying to win a stare down with the snickers shelf. 
I would report if it caught my eye though, like a kid who looks like they’re in elementary school buying cigarettes would stand out to me.

@jay what’s the ID policy? Here it’s think 25 so if they look older than 25 we don’t ID it’s down to us to work out whether to ID or not.
