A thank you to my boyfriend, who saved my life today

I am writing this because I am absolutely outraged by what is currently occurring in my life, and need a place to vent, as well as a place to pay tribute to the amazing man who kept me from sustaining serious and potentially fatal injuries today.

A little background on the situation: I am 21, my boyfriend is 32. We have been together since I was 19 and my parents absolutely hate him, simply because of our age gap. This age gap, albeit fairly significant, has had little to no effect on our relationship, and I have spent the last 2 years of my life with an amazing, supportive, loving man who pushes me to be a better version of myself on a daily basis.

Anyway, here is my story.

My BF and I decided to take a weekend away together. I told my parents I was going to be out of town so I wouldn't be by for the weekend (I live in an apartment outside of my hometown) but did not tell them where I was going or who with. On the way back this AM, I hit black ice on an exit ramp. My truck spun 3 times, I caught gravel, and was essentially flung down an 8 ft hill. My truck was on two wheels and I was panicking and pulling against the slide, and he calmly reached over and pulled the wheel into it until we stopped. He called the sheriff and the tow truck, and handled everything, all while keeping me calm. The sheriff who responded told us that had he not taken the wheel, we would have flipped and been upside down in the 3 ft of mud and water at the bottom.

Upon telling my parents this information, they yelled at me for even going on a trip with my BF. How dare I?

So, the moral of this post is, to my boyfriend: thank you, for all that you are and all that you do. To everyone else: love the people who love you, regardless of what other people think. They will impact your life in so many ways, and hell, they may even prevent you from potentially losing it.
