Exclude SO from family photo with BM??

Question

Is it a "normal" or "appropriate" request to ask your SO to stand aside while you take a Christmas picture with your child, your parents and your baby mom or baby dad? my fiancé did this while we were at his parents house and I just felt awkward because I am now a part of the family but he said it's nice to have one with his daughter and her parents.

Well if it was only for that one picture then i dont see a problem with it, but if you got excluded from all of them then that is not okay.

I think his request is reasonable. It would be unreasonable if you were excluded from every picture.

Im with the consensus on this. If they are amicable enough to stand in a picture together with their child, let it be.

Think about it this way... I’m a photographer and when i do wedding photos and parents are divorced, we still usually do 1 photo of the bride/groom with biological parents only and then do one with step parents or their parents SO. 
I do find it a little strange that they do Christmas together, I’m divorced myself, but my Ex husband is a deadbeat, so it’s a little difficult to imagine the dynamics of the child’s parents get along. But if they get along for the sake of the child, Great. I’d only worry if they seemed flirty and untrustworthy, but then I’d just leave rather than worry about being cheated on.

I would say one with the SOs and one without. Then that I way they’ve got a picture with just parents and grands and then another with the people added. Precautionary really

my partners best friend's father cheated on his mother and married the woman he cheated with. He happens to live in a different state but if he's around during the holidays they are invited and still spend holidays together. On his last birthday he still took a photo of just him, his dad, and his mom without the step mom... and they've been divorced almost 20 years. I see it as a normal occurrence around me. My sister has a different father and he's at EVERY HOLIDAY and sometimes just random barbeques. Sometimes she takes photos of herself and her kids witb just our mom and her dad. My parents have never divorced and so that makes 30+ years they've been divorced. Those are her parents, it's not awkward unless you're excluded from all photos. Family dynamics are complicated.
