Does my newborn have a milk allergy?

Question

The past two days she has thrown up breastmilk multiples times throughout the day(she is only 10 days old). I know milk allergies can be a common cause and I was wondering if anyone has/had a baby with a milk allergy. Her pediatric appointment is tomorrow morning so I will let them know of course, but for today I want to know what you all say. Thanks and Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it!

If she is just throwing up milk and is so young, it’s not likely an allergy. It’s probably just because her stomach gets over filled. It happened to mine a lot! I started to just hold back a little on her feeding. Just that their stomach are small and underdeveloped, and little makes them spill over.

My daughter is formula fed but she was throwing up after every single bottle and she does have a milk protein allergy. However, she was also have a lot of gas and diarrhea. If you are super concerned the doctor can test a diaper in the office. It’s very quick and you get the results in seconds. I do think your baby would have other symptoms as well.

My baby is breastfed but also has a milk protein allergy, meaning I can't have any dairy, including things that are baked in. Lots of reading labels! BUT it's like a whole different baby when I went off dairy. He was throwing up a ton, had bad reflux, super gassy, mucous in his poo, and horrible skin rash. You have to be really careful because SO MUCH stuff has dairy in it, and it takes a few weeks to fully clear your system but for us it has been so worth it!

my daughter has a milk protein allergy. Our only sign was extreme weight loss and not really thriving. everyone in my husband's family could not have dairy based formula so we switched her to soy, this time it caused her to have bloody diarrhea. found the right s
formula for her and shes turned into a chunk. I tried breast feeding once I was able to (I was too sick after I had her which ruined my supply) but between her hefty appetite and allergy it just did not want to work

My son has a casein (milk protein) allergy. He’s 20 months now and it’s been very difficult, sometimes it seems he can tolerate low amounts and other times absolutely nothing. When he was an infant he did well with Enfamil Gentlease and luckily we did not have to go on Alimentum. Now that he’s older if he drinks too much, he has seizures. Too much exposure to an allergen, left untreated, causes swelling in the brain. He’s also allergic to soy so it’s been a huge struggle. Rice milk has zero nutrition and arsenic. Almond milk is similarly nutritionally worthless. Coconut milk is not considered a milk replacement as far as protein and fatty acids. We are currently trying hemp milk in small amounts. I have also given him vegan protein powder made with pea protein so he gets the protein and vitamins that milk provides. Your baby is obviously very young for any of this to be an issue, but a milk allergy is something that you worry about every second since milk seems to sneak it’s way into everything in some form. Food companies even find ways to disguise casein in labels under other names. It’s horrible.
Anyway if you’re worried about it, see an allergic and test sooner rather than later. Repeat the test every 6 months bc the hope is the allergy at least decreases in severity.
