I spent $180 on my man's gifts and he got to pick them out. 
he got me a $15 pair of jeans from Ross. 
He makes about $400 more a week than I do, and he only got me a pair of jeans?... I felt insulted because he knew the cost of his gifts (new Adidas, new pack of shirts, new Rasta clat bracelet, among a few other things he asked for).  
Needless to say, I was disappointed. :/ We live together, he knows what I like... I rarely even wear jeans.

My husband doesn't do anything for himself because he pays our rent, so I take care of any necessities he needs, and I get the holiday stuff lol. He doesn't get me anything. We just spend time together. In your case though, that's selfish.

As a kid I never believed in Santa because I never got gifts on Christmas, I still haven't gotten a single Christmas gift and I'm 17. We. Go to church and talk about the birth of Christ but we have no tree, no decorations of any kind. Xmas is just another day in my house. Basically what I'm saying that if you get gifts, but just not from your boyfriend please BE HAPPY YOU GET ANYTHING AT ALL. 
Sidenote: This doesn't make you needy and he may not be selfish, maybe he's just a bad gift giver or broke.
