Called the N word by a toddler, should I be offended?

Well I was over at a friends house. She has a 4 year old. She’s Thai and her husband is black (South African). They’re a fun easy going couple, and the dad likes listening to rap music that has the N word in it. I’m obviously black but I HATE that word whether it ends with an ER or GA. It makes me cringe. Anyway I was talking to my friend and the kid randomly said “my nig**, you my nig**. My friend just laughed it off but I found it extremely rude. Should I loosen up or tell her to teach her kid some manners? On another occasion not too long ago the kid was playing with his toy gorilla and said to me “look your feet look just like his”. Idk I’m just starting to get pissed off with that kid grrrr

That is not right at all!!! Especially if it makes you feel uncomfortable. Being black isn’t an automatic pass on this-they’re still a kid and they can’t be throwing inappropriate words around left and right. Do speak to his parents because it’s likely the kid will get into trouble himself continuing down this route.

While I don’t think it’s appropriate for him to use it, I don’t think he meant any offense by it. 
Not everyone is going to think or speak the way you do. If he meant it to offend, that’s a different story.
A little boy on the my daughters bus called her gay & the Nword. While I don’t know in what context he said any of that, she said he was trying to be mean. She’s 7, didn’t know what the word gay meant & knows the Nword isn’t okay to say.

You never know what a kid is going to say. My parents where once discussing my uncles “healthy” appetite. (Not in an unkind way.) He was doing some outside work for my parents and my Dad sent my little sister out to invite him in for lunch. She invited him but also informed him that he ate too much. He didn’t come in for lunch so my dad went to check on him and he finally told him what my sister had said. My parents where embarrassed that my sister took their comment out of context that way. But if my uncle hadn’t admitted what she said then they wouldn’t have known. They definitely had a long discussion with her! Lol! 
In your situation it seems as if the parents are somewhat aware of what he is saying. But perhaps they don’t realize how harmful it can be to allow him to talk that way. His parents are doing him a disservice by allowing this behavior. I definitely think you should talk to one of them about his inappropriate comments. At four a child is becoming more socially aware and they could use this as a teaching moment. 
If they don’t correct his behavior then I would firmly say to him, no don’t call me that, I’m your friend, not your ****.

I would say something to the friend. Not everyone in the world is gonna be cool with being called that word, especially by a child and regardless of race. Most people consider it a slur/swear word, and that type of language is generally not regarded as being appropriate for kids. He can't go to kindergarten and call the teacher his n***a, better to address the issue than not. Bring it up gently that you'd hate for him to get a bad reaction from someone who doesn't understand rather than a commentary on their parenting perhaps.

My brother in law (he's 7) says that word a lot and we're not black. His siblings say it and every time I have to control myself from not
Going off on them. I can't say anything to him because he isn't my child but I have told my husband billions of times to tell his brother to stop saying that. Kids follow from example. My brother in law cusses, says the n word and acts out because he watches his older siblings do it and my in laws don't even seem to care when he does it. But heaven forbid if he cusses in Spanish. Lol I could go on about how bad that kid is. Anyways So what I'm trying to say is that you can't directly saying anything to the kid because he isn't going to stop unless his
Parents get him to stop but you can comment about it to your friend. Just let her know it makes you uncomfortable and that's it's super inappropriate for him to compare your feet to a gorillas. Because there will be a day where he will say that to the wrong person. I've told my husband that a million times about his brother but apparently he's naive enough to think that people will let it slide cause he's just a kid.
