so for christmas i got a versatile wrap that can be used for different things, mostly for your hair/head. now, i'm white, and if i wrap my hair in it, am i appropriating anyone's culture? or is there a certain way i should avoid wearing it so i don't insult anyone? just curious so i don't look ignorant. really i just want to use it to hold my hair back (it's very long and thick) when i'm sleeping or cleaning. thanks:)                                                    EDIT: it reminds me of the way women would wear them during the war, like Rosie the riveter

I’m black... it is not cultural appropriation. You are wearing it for YOUR WANTS and wishes. I can see how most minorities in the black community wear a scarf to protect their hair and cover it, some Africans that I have as friends wear it with their cultural outfits, but there are not any rules on the scarf. You should wear it because you like it. If people cannot handle seeing you wear a scarf, be confident and ignore them. I think seeing other people wearing different things embraces culture more than anything unless people feel as they created the style. Overall do what you want 💗

I definitely think this belongs to a specific culture, I’m just not sure which one. So truthfully, I would ignore all comments unless it’s from someone from that culture/knows specifically about the culture that it belongs to. Especially ignore white people who tell you it’s not cultural appropriation. They’ll tell you NOTHING is cultural appropriation.
Anyways, until you know for sure I would hold off on wearing it. Good luck!

Black girl here, POC’s usually use head wraps to cover protective styling, or for fashion ☺️

As you said yourself, It's the style from a certain era. It's not from a specific culture. Old lady's where I'm from wear them. 
Everyone wants to make something of nothing 🙄 wear the scarf and think no more of it.
