Should I get an epidural or do it with no pain medicine?

I want to try but I have a low tolerance for pain. I'm terrified of tearing, and I watched so many birth videos majority of them they were crying or groaning in pain and screaming and I honestly feel tramautized.. Can you rate your pain during birth? 1-10?

My goal was for a drug free, natural labour & delivery but told myself and my husband if I'm not coping with the pain that I would be open to drugs. I think it's a good mindset to go in with. I was very fortunate and progressed fast and was able to have the drug free natural birth I had hoped for. It's most definitely the most painful thing I have ever experienced but it was manageable. It's weird, you just get into this zone and power through and your baby is in your arms before you know it! Best of luck to you!

I planned to have an epidural, however, was already 8cm by the time I arrived at the hospital. I have a low pain tolerance and the pain of natural birth for me was horrible. I highly recommend an epidural and anything else they offer!

Decide what you want to do when the time comes and you can see how well/not well you’re doing with the pain.
I always knew I wanted the epidural lol but when I got mine it only helped with the contractions, I could still feel everything from the hips down. It’s painful but honestly not nearly as bad as you expect, in my experience. I luckily only had to push for 10 minutes though. After you get the head out the rest is a breeze lol

OMG I feel exactly how you feel ... I  really want a natural birth but my tolerance for pain is ridiculously low! Everyone tells me and I read online it's sooo painful and I'm scared.

Yea for me childbirth was a solid 10 on the pain scale but I did it all natural because I wanted to. I felt relief when pushing and I labored for 12 hours pushed for 3. I have a decent pain tolerance but honestly I really didn’t want to have a catheter😅 and wanted to be able to feel the progress. So I chose not to get an epi. Do what’s right for you in the moment.

For me I’d say it was a 3 max. I had no pain meds. I was induced at 8am and delivered at 11:40pm so about 16hrs total. My water was broken at 10am and that made the contractions much more intense but they were 100% bearable for me. I pushed for 5 hours and ended up with an episiotomy. Do what YOU feel comfortable with. If you want no pain meds, go for it! If you do there is no shame there. I’d say go into it with an open mind, which is what I did. I wanted to attempt pain med free but was totally open minded to getting meds too. Just listen to your body & do what will make the experience as enjoyable as possible for you.

You can get the IV pain medication first, and then decide if you need the epidural later. That’s what I did. (The pain was horrible for me and I absolutely wanted that epidural- the IV meds only dulled my pain for about 15 minutes)

I labored for 14.5 hours without meds before having to have a c section. It was manageable until my water broke, and after that, it was terrible. Worst pain of my life. You don't have to make a decision now. You can try for a med-free birth, and see how you handle the pain. Everyone handles it differently!
