Student Athletes: Do you believe high school student athletes should be receiving full-ride scholarships just because they are great at their sport?

Question

So we all know students that exceed in their sport at a high school level are always being watched and scouted to attend the best of the best universities in the nation, but should they be accepted even though most athletes present a "C" average academically?
I went to school with a guy who was one of the best football players in the league and he got a full ride to UCLA.. this dude is not the sharpest in the tool shed.. I had several classes with him. He even got out of a suspension from slapping another student just because they didn't want it to be on his record?!
What are y'alls opinions on this?
I believe they should still be able to meet the requirements for each university they are going to attend. (GPA, SAT/ACT scores)

everyone deserves a chance,  some get for honors some for sport.  I mean I doubt 100% of school  valedictorian are head football players....College sports bring in money to the school, so as a business decision yes, they should get a full ride

Often times during high school these kids sacrifice hours they could use for improving academically to better their physical skill. Not everyone is book smart. Talented, hardworking, sportsmanlike athletes should definitely be given full rides if a school is able to give them. Especially considering all the time they'll be putting into their sport. Not to mention, that's often the only way some of these kids would be able to attend college!

With out an education you don’t have a student athlete all u have left is just an athlete 
No I will say I hate when coaches are teachers. Sometimes the “love of winning” gets in the way of the students education

Well college sports generate a lot of money so I see why they do it that way. Not everyone excels academically, if they instead have a bright future as an athlete, I think that's great for them. There's a lot of free rides for those who excel academically too. I got lucky with scholarships from my academics and from sports bc I wouldn't have been able to afford to go to the school I went to otherwise. That being said, I think college should be available to everyone. The cost is ridiculous!

Yes, but if so, universities need to improve balancing sports and academics cause lots of big universities focus on making sure their star athletes can play at their best when they need them and basically dumb down their education -by passing them on assignments and tests they did poorly on, or by putting them in BS courses. It's great these kids are getting the education, especially if they otherwise can't afford to, and obviously every student athlete doesn't graduate with a bullsh*t degree, but they're not getting the education they deserve.

it pisses me off when the start football player is failing half of his classes but gets a full ride to college and I have straight a’s and work my butt off and don’t receive a scholarship.

I feel like anyone who asks this question, has never been a student athlete. I’m not saying its not possible, but student athlete life is a full time job, and some. I know plenty of kids who kept that 3.5-4.0 but the truth is many SA’s struggle because their schedule is insane. Now, if you’re a solid failing student then you probably should head to a combine and skip the university part, but if a school wants you heck yeah go!  That might be your only ticket to a non-factory-job life if you’re not super academic.
