Would you let your 17 yo date a 19 yo?

I started dating this guy and my parents want me to break up with him because they don’t like the fact that he’s older. By two years 🙄. The age of consent in my state is 16 so it’s perfectly legal. There’s literally nothing wrong with dating him and my parents don’t understand that. How should I talk to them??

If he’s a good guy and treats you right I don’t see why such a small age difference should matter... have they met him? Maybe having them spend some time with him getting to know him will help

Is age the only reason they don’t want u to date him? Have they met him? Spoke to him? Remember that your parents only want the best for you and are just looking out for your safety. And I assume you’re still living at home? Do they’re kind of within their rights to ask that of you. If he’s a good genuine guy maybe let them meet him and have a chat. They might see things differently after speaking to him.

I would let my child if he/she was of good character. But if I didn't think so and asked my child not to, they should respect my wishes in till they are an adult.

Parents could just be concerned. When my fiancé & I started going out, I was 17 & he was 21. Have they met him yet?? There concerns could be he’s just with you for sex, or other potential issues like that.

I was 16/17 hanging out with guys 5-10 years older than me. I think the fact that my parents knew I wasn't having sex made them not worry so much about it. btw didn't have sex til I was 18. my SO now is 3 years older than me. I dont see much wrong with a 2 year age difference you can easily meet someone in high school with a 4 year age difference so 2 years isn't bad imo. you may just want to back off from it for now if you just turned 17 but if your close to 18 I wouldn't worry about it they cannot control who date once your an adult. maybe appeal to them as your close to being 18 and you are old enough to know right from wrong they raised you well and you want them to put some trust in you to choose who you are with.
