UK Midwife appointments

Corinne

Hi All,

Just wanted to compare what kind of care you were having with your midwife appointments.

So far I had a booking appointment at 10 weeks, was there for 15 mins. Had bloods, blood pressure, urine test. Discussed screening. Referred to obsetrician due to my heart condition. Told to see GP for iron tablets.

Had scans at 13 weeks, 20 weeks, 24 weeks - which was an extra for fetal cardiac check.

Saw obstetrician once, about 13 weeks, who said all ok, for my to have a normal delivery. She discharged me back to the midwife, without me knowing.

16 weeks. Had blood pressure checked and fetal heartbeat listened to. No urine check. Asked midwife to re-refer me to the obstetrician as I still have concerns and questions.

26 weeks, saw GP for quick blood pressure and heartbeat check. Also had appt with the midwife, who also did my blood pressure, baby’s heartbeat but did not measure my uterus, feel it, do my urine or discuss any other screening or whooping cough vaccine which I’ve since discovered we should be offered. Was told I need bloods done at my GP surgery for iron levels. Still no hospital letter come through, had to ask midwife to contact them for me as there doesn’t seem to have been a referral.

My next midwife appt is at 34 weeks, so in 8 weeks time. The NHS and NICE guidelines on antenatal appointments suggest I should have been seen at 25, 28, 31 weeks before the 34 week appointment.

Is anyone else having this poor level of care?
