Do you think people have become lawsuit happy?

Question

It seems like everywhere I turn I hear someone talking about suing someone. “I tripped over my own feet in Walmart: lawsuit,” “my kid scraped their knee at recess: lawsuit,” “someone looked at me funny: lawsuit.”
I feel like some people have become so money hungry and want to sue for everything. It makes me kind of sad that people can’t just settle things without involving the court.

No. A lot of businesses would prefer you feel that way because it's in their best interest. 
Like the MacDonalds coffee lawsuit? The coffee was hotter than boiling water and caused third degree burns on the woman. MacDonalds had received many complaints but never changed it.  Her injuries almost killed her. 
But due to an expert PR campaigns, people talk about it as if she, and people who file in general, are crazy and money hungry. 
Stay woke kids. Some of the companies are WACK. If you can, secure the bag 🤷

No. I think that the idea that frivolous lawsuits being a serious problem has been spread by major corporations not wanting to take responsibility. 
Like that poor elderly woman who became a national laughing stock for suing McDonald’s over too hot coffee was in fact very badly hurt.

I think so. Accidents happen sometimes. If it doesn’t cause a lot of damage, I don’t see the need to sue. I do think it should be brought to the attention of whoever’s fault it is so things can be fixed. Once I slipped and fell in McDonald’s because the floor was wet. There was no wet floor sign up. I scraped my leg and it bled quite a bit, but I was able to resume my life as normal. We just let them know so no one else got hurt.

I think thInk they’re saying it more as a joke. Than actually something they mean. 
I mean think about it, it’s going to cost them time and money to sue someone and then have the potential of getting counter sued for wasting someone else time and money.

No, I don’t think so.  
Most people don’t actually go around suing people over frivolous stuff. 
It’s expensive to sue and time consuming as well. 
There are definitely some cases where lawyers basically run scams to target certain things for settlements. Companies settle rather than fighting them because it’s cheaper than the costs to defend. It’s basically a niche for these guys.

I will throw in my anecdotal 2 cents. I have a great friend who has been a nurse for 20+ years. When I became a nurse 5 years ago her gift to me was my first year of personal liability insurance. She said that in her first 15 years as a nurse she was subpoenaed 3 times and in the last 6 years she has been subpoenaed 6 times. Nursing school never used to cover “defensive documentation” and now there are entire courses on how to properly document for courtroom appearances. I have never been subpoenaed (knock on freaking wood) but I have been threatened by patients many times, that I or the doctor in charge of there care “would see them in court.”

No. I think corporations want to make it seem that way so they don't look bad. 
My husband is dealing with this mentality right now while suing his old workplace. People think it is stupid however they fired him for a medical condition he has which is blatant labour law violation.

While anecdotal evidence doesn’t ever quite prove an issue, let’s examine reality court rooms. People’s Court, Judge Judy and the like. That’s a parade of lawsuits for our entertainment, but they were suits in various civil courts. Hours and hours of suits, some valid, but even more just wacky and/or frivolous. Look at how many of those shows exist now than when The People’s Court first appeared. Not only are they happy to sue we’re happy to watch.
