Should you have to hold someone's baby if you don't want to?

My brother recently had a baby and I keep being pressured into holding the baby. I'm perfectly okay interacting with her and being part of her life, but I just genuinely feel uncomfortable holding her and everyone keeps asking me if I want to, and I have to keep refusing.

I’ve never held a baby in my life...and I’m about to be a mom. Lol.

I just say I’m afraid I’ll drop them. That usually frightens a parent enough to not offer you to hold their baby again. Lol.

You can refuse if you don't want to... But think of the other end......Some people think it's rude not to  offer..... some people will be offended that " they never let me hold the baby" so they are covering their asses

Don't need to make a confusion. You can say in a playful manner "no thanks, it's so cute and tiny I'm afraid to break them", and smile. Always work.

I completely understand where you’re coming from and you definitely shouldn’t have to if you don’t want to. Newborn babies are so fragile, it scares me to hold them. I always refuse

No I don’t think you should have to. I am very awkward and anxious in situations like that. My family forces me to hold babies, talk to them, and whatnot. It makes it worse. I’ll talk to them if I want to lol. If I am watching the baby, I would obviously interact with them. But idk sometimes it’s weird when people are watching. When my nephew was younger, I found that he wasn’t very responsive when I tried talking to him so I would make different facial expressions and he’d laugh. My family would get mad at me for not talking. I just don’t see why it matters. I wasn’t hurting him.
