Stopping/delaying period

Is it okay to stop my period with birth control pills? My SO is in the military so him coming home is so wishy washy. So my period is suppose to come next week (when he comes in) so obviously i don't want "aunt flow" coming lol.

Comments? Suggestions?

I'm on the pill and one of my friends does it but i don't think she does it all of the time. So I'm wondering if it's healthy to stop it completely
