Taking newborn that hasn’t been immunised to the hospital
My baby is a month old and hasn’t been immunised. She makes this loud sound when breathing. I had a telephone consultation with a doctor who advised me to take my baby to the A&E; at the hospital. Is it safe to take a newborn who hasn’t had her immunisations to the hospital? I am in the UK and her 1st immunisation is at 6-8weeks so we are still waiting for that.
We went to the hospital and was seen by the doctor who kept us waiting in his consultation room for 30 minutes only to come back to say “I am seeing you and another patient at the same time, that’s why I kept you waiting”. He went on to say “why will you bring a 6 weeks old baby to the hospital when she hasn’t had her immunisation”. I told him that I was told by the GP to take her to the hospital. He did not even examine my child. All he did was stare at her while she’s sleeping and said “she’s sleeping and not making loud breathing sound so she’s fine. Take her home”. I questioned his attitude and why he did not even seem to care. He said “don’t get me wrong. If she is breathing loud when awake then she should be breathing loudly when sleeping too. Which she isn’t so she’s fine. You can take her home”.
