Do I need a midwife or Doula?

I have a great obgyn, a great husband (who has 2 kids from a previous marriage) and family support. I am educating myself on birth and post labor. I just don’t know if i *need a doula or midwife. Am I going to regret not getting one? Leaning towards a doula if i do but any advice, thoughts would be much appreciated. Due April 14th with a boy 💜

I thought I wanted a doula for my first, and my husband kept asking me "what will she do that I can't do even better?" He wanted it to be just us in the room (with the nurse, who is there almost the whole time, and the OB is there sometimes). We watched a few videos and I told him what I wanted help with and he was so much better than any doula. The nurses were impressed with him! It was so nice to have the birth juat be me and him.

it’s up to you really. You don’t NEED one, it’s not a must, but personally for me, i have one for this first pregnancy because i have struggled with an anxiety disorder for 9years now and i just feel like this extra support is helping me a lot

Well for me. The doula is a support person for my husband and I during a hopefully non medicated delivery, which is what we did with our daughter and were so happy that we had a doula. Our midwife will be delivering the baby and is who I go to for check ups etc. I don't have an OB.

I had just my OB who I love. The nursing staff at the hospital I delivered at was amazing too. My husband was a great support. I don’t feel like I missed anything by not having a midwife or doula.

It totally depends on your personality. I had a homebirth with just a midwife and my husband. The midwife literally just sat in the corner and watched to make sure everything was going ok. My husband rubbed my hand 😂 but I am the type of person that doesn’t like interruptions and withdraw when needing to focus on something. I would have been super irritated if someone was there constantly asking if I needed anything but some people like that.
