Why do people try to pick sibling names that “go together?”

I’m not trying to judge or criticize. I’m genuinely curious. I don’t understand. Why do people care if their children have coordinating names? Doesn’t that just make it more confusing?

I just like them to flow nicely. they don't need to be similar, or rhyme. just sound nice when you say them all.

Because they like the way it sounds? I named my first two Evan and Ava....We were considering naming this one with a V too but we’ve decided to make it sounds more complete and close it off as this will be our last child. Not sure if that makes any sense but it doesn’t need to anyways, cause that’s our choice! Lol.

One reason could be that it makes them feel like they have something special or in common as a family unit. I have notice this for people who have to give all their kids names starting with the same letter- especially if both parents' initials are the same. Interestingly, I cannot stand when people give all their kids first names with the same initial letter, but I love it for the middle name. Not exactly sure why it bothers me so much for the first name. Me & my siblings have the same middle initial. I think it is just fun, something we have in common & can enjoy as a family.

"Going together" and sounding similar are different things. Two names can sound good together and be very different, or they can be very similar names and sound good together, etc.. Regardless, it's the parents' choice and it shouldn't matter to you.

I don’t get it either! I think it sounds super cheesy or confusing most of the time. But I understand that sometimes it’s a family tradition or something. Just my personal preference.

I don’t like rhyming names (even for twins) but I wouldn’t do a Jessica and a Willow. Or Jonathan and Fox. I would keep them in the same category. 
My girls are Iris and Lyla. Not rhyming but they match, nothing wrong with them flowing together

Currently trying to name baby #2. We definitely want to make sure the names sound good together. Like you can name a child Matt and the other Ichabod. They should sound good together or at least in the same category of names.

I’m Emma and my sister is Elleanor. So we’re Elle and Em ( L & M ) totally coincidental lol. 
Now with my daughters I guess we’re just drawn to “ia” ending names ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. We have Sophia and Emilia.
