Moving in with parent?

Hi, 
So husband and I are struggling a little financially and are considering moving in with my dad as he has practically an apartment as a basement, living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom. But I just feel so sad. A few things haven’t worked out for us, and his career specifically has been on the decline. We rent a townhome now, which I adore. I know I am lucky. Lucky I even have a home, and lucky I have a dad who would let us move in. I guess I just want to hear from other married couples who had to do this to save some cash. Were you sad too? Was it not as bad as you thought? I just need some positive words or ideas I suppose 🙁

my hubby and i are currently living with my parents. it does make me sad because we want to be on our own, but we know we have to do this right now so we can save money. just hang in there, remind each other of how much you love each other and try to remember it won’t always be like this! and never forget to thank your dad! good luck to you guys ❤️

So while I’m not married- I’m actually in the process of moving back in with my parents too and feeling some of the emotions you are as well. I had a bad breakup happen and struggled with really bad anxiety. This came right after I had signed a new lease (which I’ll now be breaking). It is sad. I look back at the life I had before this guy and how independent I was. My little apartment. But I’m looking forward. And you should too. I think it’ll be good for you. You can save a ton of money this way. It may also help take some stress off your husband and the problems with the career. It’ll be alright. It’s not permanent. :)

i lived with my husband and his grandma for 2 years! it was horrible (only because he was treated lile shit by her and she treated him like he was 2, up in his business and crap) we moved to my familys house for 1 year till we got our own place finally! yet it was horrible there 2 always being told what to do and when to do it and things it sucked but we did manage to save money, i love my family and all but just cause ur dad lets u move in please dont let him into your personal life things can get messy. idk how your family works or anything. but yes it was nive to save money but it sucked living with family...

My husband and I are thinking of doing the same thing.  He’s a union electrician but still in the apprenticeship program, so not making great money.  I’m a medical biller.  We live on Long Island and it’s impossible to buy a house here!  We’ve lived in a condo for six years.  Now we have a little one on the way, so I really want to buy a house, and we could save so much money if we moved in with my mom for just a year—same situation as you, she has a big basement and she would be literally thrilled to have us there.  My husband has not taken too great to the idea, and yes, I would he sad to lose our privacy and the life we’d built for the last six years, but keep thinking for just a little while of inconvenience, we may be closer to our goal of actually buying a house.  Don’t fret, this is going to be a tiny blip on your radar when you look back years from now.  Good luck!!
