12 week ultrasound

I’m almost 12 weeks and I’ll be having my second appointment this Monday. My doctor told me at the first appointment and my dating scan that the 12 week ultrasound was not required and he with my Health, age and family history it wasn’t necessary. That being said I feel like I should still have the ultrasound just to ease my mind. Did anyone else’s doctor say that it wasn’t required? With my first it was just a routine ultrasound and they didn’t really give me a choice.
