Epidural?!

Hi ladies, I'm now 29+2 and prenatal has now got me to start filling out papers for my birth plan. I've bee  debating an epidural for a long time. At first I was dead set against it but the closer I get to birth, the more I think I might need it. Does anyone have any advice based on their experience using or not using epidural? any input would be appreciated!

I got one and my experience was nothing but positive!!
I’m scared of needles (however since the day I got pregnant, it didn’t bother me as much because I knew it was for my sweet baby). Anyways, I barely felt the needle that numbs you for the epidural, it was like a tiny pinch, and then I didn’t feel the epidural at all! I did feel a tiny bit of grinding almost, but it wasn’t horrible at all! Just a weird thought lol. 
Within 10 minutes I was numb from the hips down! I was still able to push, but didn’t feel anything! I had to have an episiotomy, and didn’t feel that either!

Write it down as an option. I knew wanted it  but wanted to wait until I was 6/7+ but once I was at 4 nothing could ease the pain... sitting on a ball, walking, nothing! So I got the epidural then. It was like a blanket of calmness that overcame me and made me so much less stressed out. I could still feel my body go through the contractions since I could feel my stomach tighten up and see my heart rate raise but I was not fighting the pain anymore. Obviously once you get it they put a catheter in and you are not allowed out of bed but for me it was the best decision and I will be doing it again with this second baby.

Keep an open mind. I knew I didn’t want one, but I didn’t want to be disappointed in myself if I ended up feeling like I needed one. There were times it crossed my mind, but I was determined to have an all natural birth. When you push you don’t feel the contractions. As soon as baby is out all pain is gone.

I would say to keep it as an option. I didn't want an epidural but after 50 hrs of contractions, 2hrs of sleep and labor stalling out and needing pitocin I decided to get one. My nurse was trying to talk me out of it. She didn't really want to give it to me because my original plan was a natural birth. When I pregistared at the hospital for this baby the woman who did my pre registration told me when I am admitted to the hospital to just sign the anesthesia paperwork just in case but it doesn't mean I have to get pain medications. I plan to get an epidural this time.

Wait and see how you go. If you feel like you need it, then get it then. It's not something you can really decide on until you see how your body copes with labour :)
