Newborn Screening thyroid test

R

My pediatricians office called today saying my sons newborn screening results came back from the state as abnormal for thyroid levels. His TSH was slightly elevated with a normal T4. I’m a nurse, so I understand that in adults this can be the early signs of hypothyroidism but I wasn’t sure if anyone had similar experience and have it be a false positive for newborns? I’ve read that babies have a tsh surge after birth, so I’m hoping blood work was just done a bit early and it caught that.

We go for a repeat test next week at his next appointment, just wasn’t sure if anyone had any experiences to share with me!

Thanks 😊
