Will CPS do an automatic home check if you're on welfare?

Question

I've heard that if you're on welfare (WIC, Medicaid, all that) CPS will do a home check after you take the baby home from the hospital. Has anyone had any experience with that to know if it's true or not? If so, I have about two weeks to get my house cleaned up (which is more than enough time, but every woman knows how messy a house can get if left ignored for even 2 days).
My baby girl is due in February and I'm a first-time young mom, so I'm not sure if CPS will do a home check because of that anyway.
Also, if it helps, I live in South Carolina - I know rules can vary from state to state. Any input from experience or advice would be appreciated 🙂 thanks!

I live in Indiana. I've never heard of this. We get Medicaid and WIC, and have received food stamps previously. Even if they do come, I would worry. All you have to have is necessities for baby, running water, food, and electricity.

No. CPS is very overburdened as it is, they don't have time to do a home check for every single person receiving public assistance. CPS gets involved when there are reported allegations of abuse, neglect, or abandonment.

OK so I'm here with you in SC and this is my third child. I had my first when I was a teenager and on Wic and stuff they never came to do a check not once. Never came for the 2nd baby and I had Medicaid and Wic. So I doubt they're coming unless they have some reason to believe they need to come like you're unfit or a danger to the baby.

Not in SC. But I’d clean my house as good as I can anyway,lol. It makes PP life so much easier. I live in SC and had my son in September....... literally best thing I did for myself was deep cleaning before

No they won't. Just because you're on wic, or any type of government assistance doesn't mean the welfare of your child will be at risk. They only do this if they feel the child's home or living situation is a risk to their health.

I have never heard of this. Also, just do a little bit everyday. Sometimes a mess can just get out of control so easily and so quickly. Even if they don't do a home visit, you should still try to get it in order, it'll make you feel better. Good luck!

Nope.  I have wic and food stamps. And had both when I had my second child. No visit.
