My ectopic pregnancy story

Ava

My husband and I had been trying for over a year now. End of last year I was diagnosed with ovarian cyst, the doctor said it had started to dissolve so I would go for a follow up scan in 6 weeks time. I got my appointment for 10.01.2018 and I was told I now have cysts on the other ovary and another one in the uterus and I was refered to a gyner. As I was waiting for my appointment at the gyner, on 17.01.2018 I took a pregnancy test, at this point I wasn't expecting any positive but I did the test anyway and I got my BFP. I bought the digital one just to be sure and indeed I was 2-3 weeks pregnant. I went to see my GP straightaway because I had had some spotting from 10.01.2018 which at that point I thought was my period. She was all positive and I was supposed to go for blood tests on 23.01.2018 however she said if the spotting gets heavier or cramping gets worse come back and we will do an early scan. Went home all happy discussing names, my husband was soo happy. The spotting did not stop and it seemed to be getting worse but it wasn't consistent and I was cramping. On Monday 22 I had very sharp pains around lunch time, I went to my GP and she booked an OBGYN for me for that afternoon. I went for my appointment and they did a scan, there was nothing in my uterus and there was something that looked like a sac on my left but he wasn't sure so he said I should do 2 blood tests in 48 hours he however said chances of this being a normal pregnancy are very low, I was gutted. I booked an appointment for my blood test the following day at lunchtime. I went to work in the morning and the pain started again around 10 am, at this point I was struggling to walk I took some pain killers but they didn't seem to work. By the time my husband picked me up to go for my blood test I was in so much pain so they took my blood work but said we should go to A&E.; Got there and they said we're taking you to theatre, based on yesterday's scan it's an ectopic pregnancy and we have to deal with it a.s.a.p. I had surgery and I lost my left tube as it had ruptured, they also took out the cysts on my right ovary. at the time of my surgery my right tube and both ovaries were okay. I'm still on sick leave recovering, I will have my follow up appointment in 3 weeks time. I have a 6 year old girl who can not wait to be a big sister. I'm trying to stay positive.
