Am I selfish?

Question

So much husband and I got married 6 months ago and we both have stable good paying jobs with benefits. Well recently my mil told me and my husband that we would be selfish if we had a baby right now due to the fact that we live in an apartment and not a house.  We are saving for a house however it’ll be another year before we have the down payment money and we’ve wanted kids for a few years. Are we really being selfish for wanting a kid right now??

What?? That’s so first world problem. An apartment is fine. Living your whole life in an apartment is fine. That’s so ridiculous. 
I had my first 2 while living in apartments. Didn’t make any real difference. I just had fewer expenses and no lawn to mow. :)
The kids didn’t care. And it didn’t hurt them at all.

In laws can be very opinionated. Some say don’t have kids for 5 years, some can’t wait. It’s up to you and your DH, bottom line.

No. You arent selfish. It’s your child, not your mil. My mil told my husband that she doesn’t want grandkids because she cant support them. Well, we still haven’t told her yet but we are expecting. It isn’t for her to decide. She isn’t the one supporting the baby either.. that’s me and him.

No you’re not. You can raise a baby in an apartment until you have a house. Besides, the baby will be small and won’t care since it won’t need outside space to play etc.  It sounds like your mother in law is trying to burst your dreams. Don’t let her. As long as you and your husband feel it in your heart to have a child and are able to provide for the child and yourselves, your MIL needs to mind her own business. I grew up in NYC in a tiny apartment... A child doesn’t need a house to grow up, all they need is a loving, caring and nurturing environment from their parents. Tell your mil to stop with her nonsense.
