What does liberal mean and why is it a bad thing? What is the opposite of liberal in regards to supporting bad behavior?

Why do Trump supporters label any one who questions his behavior liberals? You can be Republican and disagree with his behavior. You can be a Democrat and stand behind something he said. Why is 'liberal' a negative?             The party lines are doing nothing but dividing us. Instead of arguing about all that we disagrer on, would it not be much more productive to define what we agree on?

Using liberal as a slur has been popular since at least the George W. Bush era. Maybe before then as well, but the prominence of Fox News has made it common place. 
I refer to myself proudly as liberal. At its heart that means I favor a strong central government with expansive social policy. 
Donald Trump is neither liberal nor conservative. He’s an opportunist whose viewpoints shift as needed to fit a given situation. It’s why he’s publicly declared himself both prochoice and prolife. I don’t think he really gives a Fuck all either way. (Please don’t turn my comment into an abortion debate. It’s just the clearest example I can give). Criticism from everywhere is valid.

The way people use the word liberal as an insult has always made me chuckle. 
I recognize that certain traditions in America (I’m saying America specifically because that’s where I live) are no longer beneficial and/or fair to certain groups in society. 
I recognize the humanity in trans people, black and brown people, the LGBT community, immigrants, Muslims, atheists, and many other people who are pushed to the margin of society. 
I am for women’s rights and that means 100% bodily autonomy, no questions asked. 
If trump builds a wall, I hope a flock of liberals teleport to the border and tear it down. 
I believe in institutional racism (I mean literally how could you not??! Its been proven multiple times) and something needs to be done about it. 
I believe in gun laws and gun restriction (I don’t necessarily think they need to be banned but buying a gun in America is ridiculously easy). 
I support rehabilitation over incarceration. 
I support the legalization and regulation of drugs, free health care, paid maternity leave and equal access to quality and AFFORDABLE education. 
If that makes me a “liberal” and if being a liberal is bad, then fuck it 🤷🏽‍♀️
P.S. yes the left is tolerant but no we are not tolerant of your intolerance. If you’ve been attacked by the so called tolerant left then there’s a 95% chance it was because of some B.S. you said.

I would say I'm independent as I have some views that are more liberal and some that are more conservative. 
I have to say, I associate liberals with "negative" thoughts because every time I discuss politics/my beliefs, I could state 3 "liberal" beliefs in a row but as soon as I state a "conservative" belief to them, I'm called stupid, a bigot, a racist, a "trumpet," etc. To me, SOME can't and won't listen to anyone who disagrees with them, so I barely talk about politics. 🤷🏼‍♀️

yup, I was actually just to someone. that liberal is thrown around these days as if it is a slur rather than a political affiliation. 
there is a LOT of right wing propaganda out there...Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Fox News as a whole, Breitbart, etc. Thats why the left has been demonized so much in recent years. Right wing propaganda has really done a lot to sow division in America, unfortunately

I have personally observed people who cling tightly to either the republican or democratic titles speak the words conservative or liberal as a slur. In fact, I often call out both parties because they both disappoint me. So in general, I don't think "liberal, is anymore slurred or spoken ill of as conservatives are.

I think there are people who use liberal as a negative as much as there are people who use conservative as a negative. I feel like I could ask the same question and just sub out liberal for conservative and give the same answer. 
When people say these terms and refer to a group of people they are usually indicating the groups biases. There are also people who use these labels incorrectly by suggesting that anyone who would call themselves a liberal is ‘off the deep end leftist’ or conservative is ‘extreme right-wing’.
I don’t immediately think they are negative terms, but they do indicate biases that are nice to know. I put conservative in my profile description so in CC people can have a reasonable idea of my perspective outright

I really don't know it seems like people are so quick to judge people and insult when they don't get their way all the time .They take a word that is supposed to be progressive and about change and make it an insult and call us snowflakes because no one wants to take time to understand each other

Not all liberals are "bad" but the extreme liberals are the reason for this. I just bought a shirt for my husband that says liberalism find the cure lol. It's the need for 50 genders, not being able to call kindergartners girls and boys, Doritos just for women, white privilege extremest and things that are way over the top that make liberal a slur. In my opinion of course.

Because there are some nasty liberals who need a good dose of education. It’s usually liberals who incite violence and demonize people for their views.
