Is it ok to ask ‘Was your pregnancy planned?’

Hey everyone,
I just wondered what your feelings were on bring asked if your pregnancy was planned? Do you think it’s appropriate? Have you been asked before? And if so, how have you responded?

I honestly hate being asked that question, my daughter wasn’t exactly planned like we were going to start ttc in December 2017 instead i had my daughter in October 2017 😊 but just because she was unplanned doesn’t make her any less wanted!

I was asked by my doctor,  I didn't think much of it. but I would be offended if other people asked because it wouldn't matter to me if my baby was unplanned I'd still love him/her exactly the same and it's nobody's business if it wasn't planned.

If my best friend asked me that, fine. Or MAYBE someone else close to me if they have reason to suspect it wasn't, for example I just sign up graduate school and bam I get pregnant. But no, it's not something that people can just ask you.

I don’t think it’s appropriate. Even if you don’t mean to, your insinuating that you think they are not in a place to plan to get pregnant - i.e. income, stability, relationship, maturity, etc. 
Plus, if mom to be was comfortable enough to answer that question to you, she would more than likely offer that information. It’s uncomfortable if someone asks you that and you’re not close enough to discuss it with. It’s prying and ill-mannered I think.

I have been asked the opposite which I felt kind of salty about because my fiance and I planned our baby, but because we aren't married everyone addressed it sort of negatively like "uh oh" and "oops"

I think it’s rude and invasive to ask that. I’ve had multiple people ask and I usually just say wow that’s a personal question! And then they usually move on.

I don’t think it’s a big deal, but I’m not very easily offended haha.  I think like a lot of questions we might not necessarily be fond of, I don’t think people mean any harm by it.  I think they’re just curious if you were ttc or if it was a surprise and I take it as such, but I also haven’t had anyone word it that way, either yet.  I’ve had a few people ask if we were trying or if it was a surprise, and I just reply with “God plans every one of His children!” 😊

I believe in general it's a rude question. there are only a few people whom I would ever ask that question to and even then I don't think it would be an appropriate question.

That’s exactly how I feel! I have a feeling I may be asked this question by grandparents. I’m curious to why this is important information that’s needs to be obtained?!
