Afraid of the effects of the pills

Hi everyone, to make a long story short, I wanted to start taking the pill, because I have a boyfriend and I feel ready to have sex. So I asked my mom for an appointment and she got me one. But, the problem is, I saw the side effects of the pill and they are bad (weight gain, lower sex drive). I’m really worried and I talked about it with my mom, but she said that I shouldn’t just use a condom in case it breaks. So, I wanted to ask, any tips? Anyone can share their experience with the pill? Anything can be useful! Thanks xx
