Should more homeless shelters accept men?

Question

So Outdoorlover and I were having an interesting discussion about the homeless populations in our cities. There are a lot of homeless shelters there are just for women and children and some family shelters, but should more shelters accept men?

We need more homeless shelters all together. 
Yes, men need safe spaces also, but I do understand why pregnant women and/or children with primary caregivers are prioritized, and in most cases that’s the mother.

In the part of Atlanta that I live in there are absolutely no homing resources for homeless men, there are however 9 for women and children. I personally think more needs to be done to ensure that the homeless population as a whole is helped. In my area the majority of homeless men are mentally slow. There is one man in particular who has been homeless since he was 10. He is mentally challenged and became homeless after his mother died and he took off from an abusive foster care system. The only life this man has pretty much ever known is alone and struggling. That shouldn't be happening.

Obviously, woman and children living in the streets are more likely to end up being trafficked. So I understand why resources are put in place to keep them off the streets. 
We have a men’s shelter and a women’s shelter here. Men and women should both have access to safe spaces. 
I don’t think enough is being done to combat homelessness. There is definitely much more we can do to eradicate the problem.

Other than our actual women's shelter. All other shelters are mostly men in my area. 
However more shelters period are needed.

Here we have mainly men or open for all shelter. Women fear to go there and it is a problem, we need more women homeless shelter. Thus I would say, we need more shelter fitting all groups :)

100%. Apparently there’s a massive number of homeless women and children in my city, but I rarely see them. I always see homeless men.

We need more shelters for single women without kids. As someone who was unmarried and had no kids but needed help getting out of a violent situation, I was met with a lot of “we can’t help you” because I was not a teen so I didn’t qualify for teen shelters, not married so I didn’t qualify for most domestic abuse shelters, and didn’t have kids so didn’t qualify for family or women with children shelters. 
And yes, we also need more shelters for men as well. It seems they’re also left out a lot.
